This $1.3M Carbon Fiber Lamborghini Diablo Restomod Is Close To Perfection (2024)

Though once primarily limited to vintage muscle car and 4×4 projects, the restomod genre has recently played witness to a growing number of builds based on elite vintage supercars — such as Officine Fioravanti’s TR Alte Prestazioni Ferrari Testrossa. And the latest firm to take a crack at restomodding a legendary retro supercar is San Marino, Italy-based startup Eccentrica, which has just unveiled a prototype of its forthcoming “few-off” Lamborghini Diablo restomod build series — a spare-no-expense operation that aims to bestow the supercar with modern comforts and performance capabilities while retaining its spirit and aesthetic DNA.

Taking inspiration from the bodywork and aero-kit found on the GTR-spec Diablo, this “few-off” vehicle was penned by design firm BorromeodeSilva — the same force responsible for designing Nardone Automotive’s Porsche 928 Restomod. While the car’s length and height go unchanged, it’s been widened for a more contemporary stance. With the exception of the windshield, the Diablo’s entire suite of bodywork has been reworked, and now features a new front splitter, side skirts with integrated aero fins, a rear diffuser, and Diablo SV-inspired rear intake scoops — all of which are crafted from exposed carbon fiber. Flanked by NACA ducts at the end of both sides, the hood is also totally redesigned, and now boasts headlight housings each accommodating a pair of square projector-style LEDs and dual horizontally-running DRLs. On top of custom carbon fiber mirrors, the new bodywork also includes flared fenders at all four corners that open up space for a new 19” five-arm wheel-set shod in track-ready Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R rubber. Partially shielded behind the restomod’s carbon rear diffuser is an aluminum exhaust system courtesy of CAPRISTO.

Benefitting from liberal use of carbon fiber and titanium inside and out, the Eccentrica Restomod is constructed around a steel tube chassis that’s been heavily modified and reinforced. The Lamborghini Diablo’s frame has also been paired with a modern, high-end suspension setup. Benefitting from a special fusion process that utilizes 4D technology, the restomod’s braking hardware was developed specifically for the Eccentrica Diablo restomod by Brembo and is comprised of six-piston Monobloc calipers chomping down on vented rotors. Trimmed in a combination of leather and Alcantara, the interior of Lamborghini has also been completely reworked, and now sports a neo-retro, ‘90s-inspired motif with a bespoke all-digital instrument cluster, all-carbon-fiber trim, a gated stick shift, and a custom tilt-adjustable steering wheel with a carbon fiber neck. At the heart of the restomod is the Diablo’s original mid-mounted engine, however, the 5.7-liter V-12 has been heavily upgraded and tuned, receiving new valves and camshafts amongst other up-specced internals. This combination of upgraded internals and massaging ultimately unlocks an impressive 550hp and 442.5ft-lbs of torque (at 7,000rpm and 6,500rpm, respectively), allowing for a supercar-esque 3.5-second 0-60mph time and a top speed of nearly 210mph. And, while it was largely engineered for the race track, Eccentrica’s Diablo restomod boasts full street-legal status.

Limited to only 19 units worldwide, the Eccentrica Lamborghini Diablo Restomod will be available for order in the coming weeks, with pricing starting at €1,200,000. (~ $1,305,000) — not including the cost of the ‘90s era Diablo donor. Requiring a 16 to 18-month build time, each example will be produced on a built-to-order basis, with customers being given a wide range of configurable options to ensure no two specimens are alike.
