Redbox Kiosk Locations POI | POI Factory (2024)

Redbox site states it has over 17,000 locations which I don't think means the 27,000 in the POI file. The POI file has 4 locations in Hawaii and 11 in Alaska while the website shows none so something isn't right. I think Garylap is onto something that there may have been a presumption there are Redbox kiosks at all stores of various chains - e.g. 7-11, Walgreens, Fred Meyer(grocery store),... which isn't necessarily true.

I'm guessing you just typed in the state code. The Redbox locator doesn't seem to do so well that way, try entering specific cities along with the state code and you'll find many more Redboxes in these 2 states you mention.

It also appears arbitrary numbers have been assigned to the kiosks in the listing. Is that of any help once the file is cleaned up? Takes up extra storage and viewing space and would seem to be meaningless to GPS users. Thoughts?

Otherwise, would seem to be very useful, especially with the extra information (address, indoor/outdoor) included and tough to maintain given the number and rate of growth of Redbox kiosks.

Back in the Fall when I downloaded this file, I thought EPE was going to choke trying to display the locations on Google Earth. At that time I also knew of only 6 boxes located within a 20 miles radius, but this list showed a lot more.

Within several weeks, new Red Box locations started to appear in town that matched this list. I have found it to be very accurate in the locations that I have traveled to. It may be that there are sites that were planned to have a box but for some reason, it didn't pan out or has not yet happened.

If I had a movie that I needed to return the next day in a different town, I would still go to

http://www.redbox.com/Locations/LocationSearch.aspx

and then verify that POI will show me the way to that place to make the return.

Are you saying (the 7-Elevens in your area, Suffolk County, NY, that you use) are correct or incorrect as far as listings in the Redbox POI file?

I would bet every 7-Eleven, Walgreens and Jewel Food Store sounded an alarm, even if a Redbox Kiosk wasn't located on the premises.

Maybe Miss Poi could let the POI maintainer know by Email that there may be as many as 9,500 incorrect locations in this file.

Until someone here actually gives a hoot about fixing this file, you are correct, it is almost useless to have this file loaded on your GPS. I'm going to remove it and place it in the fantasy folder file along with John Madden Football. This file can actually cost you more time, gas money and hinder your ability of finding a Redbox kiosk location.

I agree. Typing in the city of Atlanta shows RB's that may or may not match when I type in my zip code. Type in GA and all I received was RB's around Macon. Putting in the zip gives me a more accurate location. EX: put in Atlanta and my local Kroger is not listed. Put in my zip and it is first on the list.

I would love to help out on this one. I visit several different Redbox Kiosk on my hour drive to/from work.

I have emailed Redbox asking if they have a current list of locations (either as addresses or GPS cordinates).

Their web page now has an I-phone app that does everything their web page will do as well as show directions to the Redbox Kiosk in question using Google maps. It might be very easy to get a full GPS type list from them.

I received an email back from their Customer care that stated:

Guess I will wait and see if they send me anything back...

I emailed redbox about 2 months ago asking for a full list of their locations hoping to be able to update the file and make it more accurate. I got the same exact response...still havent heard from them.

You never know, they may run with the idea and post a downloadable GPS file from their website. Google maps knows where all the locations are with their local searches.

I am not sure why national chains don't post downloadable GPS locations. It would be great for anyone traveling. It would sort of drive their loyal fans to their distant locations for a visit. They could easily maintain it, because they would have accurate records for all their locations across the US.
