Synopsis
A true story that shocked the nation.
A mini-series dramatization of the controversial 1992 attack by federal agents on the Idaho home of Randy Weaver, a white seperatist. The ten-day siege, begun over a minor gun charge, resulted in the deaths of Weaver's son, wife and dog, and a U.S. Marshall. The incident caused major public outcry against the FBI and U.S. Marshals.

I loved how the Jumanji siblings had a wee reunion

This movie is like a government psy-op character assassination of Randy Weaver. So much time was spent on his supposed racism which is so totally irrelevant in rural Idaho, like they might as well have talked about how he’s a bad tipper or something. Like “it’s true the government murdered his family for no reason buuut he hardly ever used his turn signal… just saying” Even the casting of Randy Quaid is suspect. He seems like a lunatic at baseline- let alone when they add the almost entirely fabricated racism layer.
Jon Ronson goes into this and the entirety of the situation in his book, Them: Adventures With Extremists as well as in the first episode of his series, The… -

If you have read a few of my reviews; this is a "Dollar DVD Hell" pick.
For those who don't know; my roommate and I buy used DVDs for $1.00 based on two things: It's either obscure and/or the description on the back case sells it as not so good.Just the title alone was enough to buy this and put it on DVD hell.
it is based on the true events of the siege of a family on their property on Ruby Ridge, Idaho in 1992. The crazy Neo Nazi/Christian dad was caught selling sawed off shot guns. They brought him for pre trial. He was sent out on bail. His family voted for Dad not to turn himself…

inspired casting to have Randy Quaid as Randy Weaver.

does a pretty good job at being objective in this mess of a situation but looking back from a modern perspective with the knowledge that this event continues to inspire far-right, every-ist-you-can-think-of militias, the choice to dramatize the situation for a movie feels dubious at best
(ps gun-toting racist laura dern and kirsten dunst is more horrific than any slasher could dream of being)

With an intimidating runtime for what the story is, I decided to approach this one as it was originally shown to Americans in 1996 — split into two nights.
I had actually never heard about this real life event before watching so I was pretty interested in where this story about a Jesus obsessed, neo-nazi, gun loving family would take me. It was definitely….a ride! Unlike almost all of the reviews on this site, I preferred the first section to the second. Yes, the second part had all the action but I was really interested in this terrible family…why they think the way they do and would they ever change. Laura Dern is great but there’s certain scenes where I…

Originally airing as Ruby Ridge: An American Tragedy, this is a 2 part miniseries that aired on CBS in 1996, right before it's main star, Randy Quaid, went onto one of his most memorable roles in Roland Emmerich's Independence Day. This is also notable for being a surprise Jumanji reunion, happening only 5 months after it was released. Kirsten reunites with Bradley Pierce (who played Peter in Jumanji), and they get to play siblings once again, so that was pretty cool. This also has August Schellenberg from True Heart (which I have reviewed not too long ago) appearing in a cameo appearance that is way better than his character in the aforementioned movie despite appearing in only one scene. Oh…

Randy Quaid sure throws around some slurs for something that was aired on network television.
